A judge's ruling reversed a Trump administration plan to only fund about half of the month's benefits during a government shutdown. The U.S. Department of Agriculture had previously warned that reducing payouts would cause significant delays for recipients.

Michigan began providing SNAP payments as the Supreme Court late Friday issued a halt. The high court temporarily stopped the Trump administration from issuing full SNAP payments that were initially ordered by a federal judge.

The Trump administration appealed to the Supreme Court a federal judge’s order to provide full SNAP benefits for November. The high court agreed.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture said on Friday it was working to comply with a judge's order to pay full food aid benefits for nearly 42 million low-income Americans within the day, even as President Donald Trump's administration urged an appeals court to relieve it of that obligation.

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson temporarily froze a lower court order for full federal food benefits, called SNAP, for 41 million.

The Trump administration is appealing a judge's order for it to provide full SNAP food aid benefits to states by Nov. 7.
